Voter Registration & Elections primary results from June 12

According to the Sumter County Voter Registration & Elections office, here are the results of the Tuesday, June 12, 2018, primary.


Out of 71,642 registered voters in Sumter County, a total of 11,275 ballots were cast. Of those ballots cast, 6,928 voted Democratic and 4,347 voted Republican.


Voter turnout was 15.74 percent.


In the race for Governor, vote totals:


Phil Noble, 483


James Smith, 4,938


Marguerite Willis, 1,372


Kevin Bryant, 142

County Council passes a balanced budget with no tax increase

Sumter County Council approved third and final reading Tuesday evening of a balanced budget with no tax increase for the second year in a row.


Also during its regular meeting, Council passed third and final reading of a fee-in-lieu incentive agreement for an industry expansion that will see an investment of $150 million from Becton, Dickinson Company that will bring 125 jobs as well.

On June 12, 2018, Sumter County Council approved the third and final reading for Fiscal Year 2018-2019 Budget Ordinance.  This year’s budget proposal was balanced at $52,752,483 revenues and expenditures with “NO TAX INCREASE.”
