The Sumter County Cultural Commission provides services to local arts organizations and artists, and information to the general public. The Commission maintains a community cultural calendar, offers a quarterly small grant program, provides artists-in-residence in local schools, and provides opportunities for creative expression in literature, play writing, film, the visual arts, and the performing arts.

Mission Statement

The Sumter County Cultural Commission:

The Sumter County Cultural Commission is an arm of Sumter County government. The thirteen member commission is appointed by Sumter County Council and represents the business, community, arts and racial segments of Sumter County. One of the members will be selected from one or more individuals nominated by the Commander of the United States Air Force Central or its successor. One other member shall be selected from one or more individuals nominated by the Commander, United States Third Army/United States Army Central or its successor. Commissioners are selected to serve a three-year term and can be reappointed to serve a contiguous three-year term for a total of six years

Mission:

The Sumter County Cultural Commission promotes, produces and provides financial support for cultural activities and arts programming for the benefit of the entire Sumter Community, focusing particularly on celebrating the rich cultural and ethnic diversity of the Sumter Community through art education, visual arts, literary arts and the performing arts. The Sumter County Cultural Commission also assumes a leadership role in the Sumter area arts community and encourages partnerships and coalitions between Sumter area schools, arts-based organizations and individual artists and performers for the life enrichment and education of all citizens regardless of social, cultural and economic standing.
