Probate Court now offers online option for marriage license
The Probate Court now can take credit card/debit card payments online for certified copies of marriage records.
To order a certified copy of your marriage license online: https://www.southcarolinaprobate.net/search/default.aspx
The fee is $11.50
Go to website. Select County (Sumter)
Check Marriage (Underneath case#)
Type in Last Name and First Name of Groom or Bride (Brides must use their name before marriage)
The marriage license will appear at the bottom of the screen. Click Order.
Type in billing information. Marriage Licenses will be sent out the next business day.

Sumter County Council's May, 10, 2022, meeting
Sumter County Council’s Tuesday regular meeting saw first reading approval of the Budget Ordinance.
Sumter City-County Planning Director Helen Roodman spoke first about a request to rezone a 5.92-acre parcel at 2550 S.C. 261 South from Agricultural Conservation (AC) to General Residential.
The applicant, Alphonso Golden, wants to develop a residential subdivision, she said.
First reading was approved on a vote of 6-1, with Councilman Eugene Baten opposed.
She then said there have been no changes since second reading of a request to rezone a 17.25-acre parcel at 2675 Warehouse Boulevard from Heavy Industrial (HI) to Limited Commercial (LC).
Third reading was approved.
She then said there have no changes since second reading of a request to update Sign Ordinance Standards to allow transit-related signage.
Third reading was approved.
Sumter County Administrator Gary Mixon spoke briefly about first reading of the budget ordinance, noting a Budget Workshop was held earlier. Revenues currently stand at $54,672,936, with expenditures at $55,775,454 for a deficit at this point in the process of $1,102,518.
Another Budget Workshop is slated for next Tuesday, he said, as the budgeting process for the next Fiscal Year continues.

Mixon also noted first reading on the General Fund Bond ordinance, which involves the issuance of General Obligation Bonds in the principal amount not to exceed $3.5 million.

Council Chairman James T. McCain Jr. said the Fiscal, Tax, and Property Committee meeting was held earlier, and Council members held a discussion about what items can be discussed during meetings. No action was taken. An executive session was held to hear information on two legal matters and no action was taken, he said.
Mixon noted second reading on the Budget Ordinance is scheduled for the May 24, 2022, meeting.
He also told Council that on April 29, 2022, County employees held a litter pickup along the Florence Highway leading up to Brewington Road. Thirty employees took part in the pickup, he said.
Eighty-six bags of trash were removed from U.S. 76. by County Government employees.
The meeting adjourned at 6:27 p.m.

Hilditch leads Pledge of Allegiance before County Council meeting
Sumter Veteran Chris Hilditch led the Pledge of Allegiance before Tuesday’s County Council meeting.
Clerk to Council Mary Blanding read a brief biography of Hilditch, who has been a Sumter County resident since 1998.
Hilditch served our Nation in the U.S. Air Force and Air Force Reserves. He became a member of the U.S. Air Force Junior ROTC when he was in high school in Delaware.
He served as a Security Police/Security Forces member with the 569th U.S. Forces Police Flight in the Kaiserslautern Military Community in Germany at the beginning of his military career before completing his active-duty career at Shaw Air Force Base.
He continued his military career in the Air Force Reserves as an IMA Reservist while also working as a Deputy with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. During his tenure with the Sheriff’s Office, Chris returned to active-duty service following the events of Sept. 11, 2001, to augment the 20th Security Forces Squadron at Shaw AFB.
Hilditch has also worked over the years as a staff investigator and paralegal in two Sumter law firms and has owned and operated a private investigative office prior to working for Sumter County Government.
He has been the Property Manager for Sumter County Government since January 2017, and has been the ADA Coordinator for the County since 2021. He is a graduate of Leadership Sumter Class XXIII and is a Tuomey Fellow. He currently serves on the Sumter Crimestoppers Board and has been active in the Sumter Community in other civic organizations such as the Knights of Columbus.
Chris and his wife Susan have been married for over 21 years. They have a son, Aidan, and daughter, Mary Grace. His wife is a Registered Respiratory Therapist with Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital and has worked there for over 20 years.
Chris and his family live in County Council District 4, which is represented by Councilman Charles Edens.

Coronavirus statistics for Sumter County -- Free testing available
As of 11:59 p.m. on April 9, 2022, there have been 1,470,597 cases of Covid-19 in South Carolina, according to the state department of Environmental Health and Control (DHEC).
There have unfortunately been 17,698 deaths and a total number of tests reaching 15,885,625 and 37,724 hospitalizations.
For Sumter County, we’ve seen 27,811 cases of Covid-19, with 743 hospitalizations and 390 deaths. The total number of tests performed has been 305,362.
State and federal authorities continue to offer simple advice for staying healthy: Wear a mask in public, socially distance from others by staying at least six feet apart, wash your hands often, avoid crowds and crowded places and if you don’t feel well, stay home.
