Sumter County’s Register of Deeds Office will offer FraudSleuth, a free service to residents that will launch on July 1, 2024.
FraudSleuth is an online tool designed to protect property owners against possible fraudulent activity associated with their property.
Residents of Sumter County need only to create a profile – or several profiles depending on variations of their names that may be written or signed – so if a document contains any of those variations, they’ll be alerted.
“Sumter County Government continually strives to provide the best possible customer service we can, and this is another tool we can use to help fight fraud,” said Register of Deeds Director Rhonda Carter.
Carter said she urges residents to sign up for this service to help the Register of Deeds Office, through FraudSleuth, identify documents that may be fraudulent.
