Rural Fire Station Construction and Renovation

Project #1

Fire protection is a keystone of home security and with improvements to sixteen rural fire stations throughout Sumter County, the safety and security of rural residents will improve. Cherryvale, Dabbs, Wedgefield, Dalzell, Bethel, Pinewood, Rembert, Concord, Horatio, Oswego, Graham, Pleasant Grove, Mayesville, DuBose, Byrd, and 521 South will all benefit.

Patriot Park Athletic Complex and Activities Center

Project #2

More than 3,500 youth athletes in Sumter County participate in soccer, baseball, softball and football each year, learning about teamwork and healthy lifestyles. The completion of Patriot Park will give them the facilities they've earned and will provide walking paths and green space for all of Sumter County's residents.

Community Center Construction and Renovation

Project #3

Communities rely on their people. And without a place to gather, people have little chance to develop friendships that help communities survive. This project will build three new community centers in Concord, Pinewood and Salterstown, and will renovate existing centers in Cherryvale, Ebenezer, Shiloh, the Spectrum Senior Center, Rembert Community Center, and Mayesville.

Intersection Safety Improvements

Project #4

Dangerous intersections threaten us all, and this project will make significant safety improvements to those deemed the most dangerous. Improvements will include traffic control upgrades, traffic signals phasing improvements, re-striping of intersection approaches, and approach signage, among others.

Sumter County Exhibition Center

Project #5

Sumter County's signature large event venue has not seen major improvements in decades. This project will make a number of improvements to the only facility in Sumter County large enough to hold high school and college graduations, county fair activities and numerous other large-scale events.

Sidewalks

Project #6

Connecting schools and neighborhoods is vital to the safety of our children, and under this plan sidewalks will be improved and added in the neighborhoods surrounding Wilder School, Bates School, Lemira School, Wise Drive/Wilson Hall/Carter Road/Patriot Parkway, the Crosswell Area, and North Pike West.

Sumter Central Business District Intersection and Infrastructure

Project #7

The revitalization of downtown Sumter is well underway, and this project will continue that effort by addressing safety concerns, improving quality of life issues, and improving conditions for successful small businesses in the area.

Lafayette Drive/ Hwy 378 Interchange

Project #8

The intersection of Lafayette Drive, North Main Street and Highway 378 is the single most congested intersection in Sumter. Anyone who has traveled through the area during a rush hour knows the danger and frustration. The new interchange will assist in greatly reducing congestion in the area and should also improve safety.

Judicial Center

Project #9

The State Supreme Court has directed Sumter County to address safety concerns at the Court House where we handle a per capita docket on par with Greenville and Columbia.  The new Judicial Center will address the concerns and make more space available in the current Court House.

Improvements to Highway 15 South Corridor

Project #10

This project will improve traffic lines and intersection flow to increase safety and vehicular access along the Highway 15 South Corridor, to include several intersections between Red Bay Road and Highway 15 South.

Road Infrastructure Improvement at Airport Industrial Park

Project #11

In order to compete globally for industrial and economic development prospects, we must have the infrastructure in place. This project will extend and improve the current road and develop the road into a four-lane boulevard-style corridor.

Airport Industrial Park Water and Sewer Infrastructure

Project #12

In order to compete globally for industrial and economic development prospects, we must have the infrastructure in place. This project will make the Airport Industrial Park truly ready for industrial prospects.

Pocotaligo Infrastructure Project

Project #13

This project will upgrade the existing water service to the Pocotaligo Industrial Park, making the site ready for future industrial development.

Historic Property Acquisitions and Rehabilitation

Project #14

The acquisition and rehabilitation for redevelopment of historic properties will provide business development opportunities and recreational and green space areas in Sumter, including corridors such as Manning Avenue, Liberty Street, Main Street, and Broad Street.

New Water Plant in the Highway 521/Highway 15 S Area

Project #15

Many of today's industrial development prospects require a great deal of water. In order to make Sumter County competitive for these industries and the high-paying jobs they bring, a new water plant is needed.

Purchase Critical Land Bordering Shaw Air Force Base

Project #16

Shaw Air Force Base has an economic impact of $1 Billion per year in Sumter County. This tract of land, zoned for residential housing, presents a very specific threat to the long-term security of the base. The land will be developed into a passive nature park for Sumter County residents.
