Sumter County Civic Center

Discussion And Possible Action On Signage For Exhibition Center.  The Committee received a report asking that the sign for the Exhibition Center be changed to – “Sumter Exhibition Center.”  Some of the Committee members wanted the name to change to “Sumter County Exhibition Center.”  However, Chairman McGhaney suggested changing the name to “Sumter County Civic Center” since there is a diverse venue held at the Center.  After the Committee discussed this matter in detailed, it was recommended to change the name of the Sumter County Exhibition Center from its current name to Sumter County Civic Center.  The Committee took action on this recommendation. 

ACTION: MOTION and second were received from the Committee and unanimously carried by Council to change the name of the Sumter County Exhibition Center to Sumter County Civic Center. 

The Sumter County Civic Center currently has a variety of problems.  At the top of the list is a HVAC system that must be replaced and improvements to the sound system.  The unattractive building is also in need of a new front exterior and parking lot restoration.

Project Details

• Replace the Center's HVAC system
  
• Improve the parking lot
  
• Modify and beautify the front exterior
  
• Renovate restrooms
  
• Install new carpet in conference rooms
• Improve the sound system
• Restore the parking lot and fencing
