Councilman C. F. “Chris” Sumpter, II was born in Borden, South Carolina to Christopher I and Naomi Sumpter.
He is the eldest of two siblings, Jay and Felicity.
A lifelong resident of Sumter County, Councilman Sumpter attended Oakland Primary School, Rafting Creek Elementary School, Hillcrest Middle School, and Crestwood High School. At Crestwood, he was selected for Who’s Who Among American High School Students, served as Senior Class President, and graduated in the top 10% of his class. He was also a member of FFA (Future Farmers of America), 4-H (State President and National Congress and Conference Delegate), and attended Palmetto Boys State, where he served in the Senate.
After graduating from Crestwood, he attended the University of South Carolina-Sumter, where he served as Student Body President and earned his Associates of Arts. He then matriculated to the University of South Carolina-Columbia, where he earned his Bachelors of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice. During his tenure at USC- Columbia, he became a member of Phi Alpha Delta and Ducks Unlimited. He was also selected for Who’s Who Among American College Students, served on the Student Senate, worked as a South Carolina General Assembly Page, and later served as a Senate office administrator.
Currently, he serves on the Board of Trustees at Greater Mount Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church in Sumter, where he is a third generation member. He is also an active member of several organizations, including: South Carolina Landowners and Forestry Association, Professional Insurance Agents of South Carolina, Young Politicians of America, South Carolina Farm Bureau Board Member, National Rifle Association, Young Farmer and Rancher Association, Cattlemen’s Association, and My Carolina Alumni Association.
The youngest to ever serve on Sumter County Council, Councilman Sumpter was elected on November 8, 2016, at the age of 24. He is the owner of Sumpter Farms and Sumpter & Associates, LLC. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, volunteering with local non-profit organizations, spending time on his farm, hunting, and fishing.
