Members of Sumter County Council and Sumter County Government cut a ceremonial ribbon on Nov. 15, 2018, to officially open the new Patriot Park Pavilion.

The new facility will serve as headquarters for sports tournaments at Patriot Park while also serving as a venue for special events, weddings and meetings. There are also plans to use the facility as an outdoor classroom for students to gain hands-on lessons in biology and science.

County Council Chairman James T. McCain Jr. welcomed the crowd and thanked everyone for coming.

Sumter County Administrator Gary Mixon thanked County Council for their vision and support of the project, which also saw help from the Sumter Legislative Delegation in securing funds to complete it. Mixon also thanked the City of Sumter for supporting the park operation with funding as it will benefit tourism and feed the accommodations and hospitality tax.

The Greater Sumter Chamber of Commerce was on hand to host the ribbon cutting ceremony.
