    Sumter Veteran Allen Dailey led the Pledge of Allegiance before Tuesday’s County Council meeting.

    Clerk to Council Mary Blanding read a brief biography of Dailey, whose service to our country began in 1977 when he joined the U.S. Air Force.

    Dailey earned the rank of Staff Sergeant over the course of 9 years while being stationed at Shaw Air Force Base and Eilson Air Force Base in Alaska. He was honorably discharged in 1986 and was hired as a Deputy with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, where he served for 35 years before retiring in 2021 with the rank of Major.

    Dailey graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Saint Leo University in 1983 and obtained a Master’s Degree from Saint Leo University in 2008.

    He also serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of South Carolina Sumter. He and his wife Jenny have been married for 21 years and have three sons, two of whom are Veterans.

    Dailey resides in District 3, which is represented by Vice Chairman Jimmy Byrd.

    Byrd was unable to attend the meeting, so Chairman James T. McCain Jr. thanked Dailey for his service to our Nation.
