    Jan 4 2019 Councilmen sworn in 1



    Three Sumter County Council members were sworn into office on Jan. 2 and Jan. 3, 2019.

    District 2 Councilman Artie Baker was sworn in for another four-year term on Jan. 2, 2019, in Council Chambers by Sumter County Clerk of Court Jamie Campbell. Due to a family emergency, Baker was unable to attend a Jan. 3 swearing-in ceremony at the Sumter County Judicial Center, but was able to attend a reception that followed.

    District 6 Councilman and Chairman James T. McCain Jr. and District 4 Councilman Charles T. Edens were sworn in for four-year terms by S.C. Supreme Court Justice George C. “Buck” James Jr. during the ceremony.

    District 5 Council Member Vivian Fleming-McGhaney presided over the brief ceremony, and the Rev. Dr. Ralph W. Canty Sr. offered an invocation and the benediction. The Sumter County Sheriff's Office Choir performed a selection. A reception on the third floor of the Judicial Center followed the ceremony and was attended by family, friends and colleagues.

    Sumter County Council’s first meeting of the year will be held at 6 p.m. on Jan. 8, 2019, on the third floor of the Administration building at 13 East Canal Street in Council Chambers.
