The Sumter County Sheriff's Office has received information regarding:
1. A new mass e-mail scam regarding debit cards.
2. A South Carolina Post Office Robbery and sketches of suspects.

LOCAL SCAM ALERT:
The Sumter County Sheriff's Office has received information that unknown individuals are contacting retired military veterans in the late evening and Saturdays posing as Veteran Administration employees attempting to assist them.
They are attempting to verify Social Security numbers and are asking, “What is your mother's maiden name?”
Veteran Administration officials state that they neither make this kind of contact nor ask these kinds of questions.
Sheriff Mims warns against the danger of giving your Social Security number to callers such as these. If anyone receives this type call, please call your local law enforcement and report the same.
