Civil Process
The Civil Process Division consists of Warrants, Family Court, and Courtroom Security and Citizen Assistance Unit (CAU). These units are responsible for the service of most warrants, civil papers, family court orders, evictions, and many other processes that come in from judges or other legal avenues that need to be carried out in addition to handling walk in complaints and doing background checks..
The Warrants Units responsible for serving legal notices, misdemeanor warrants, evictions and ejections, restraining orders, and civil judgments. Lt. Howard Austin is in charge of the Warrants Unit
The Family Court Division is responsible for the service of all family court judgments' and orders, serving restraining orders and orders of protection, collecting monies ordered paid for child support and alimony, and for the safety of the courtrooms of Family Court. Lt Petrina Wiley is in charge of Family Court Unit
The Courtroom Security Unit is responsible for the safety and security of the main courthouse and its courtrooms. These deputies operate the metal detectors and stand guard at the entrances to ensure the safety of everyone inside the courthouse. They also work with the bailiffs inside the courtrooms when they are in session to maintain order and the safety of the judges, jurors, staff, and others. Sgt. David Scott is in charge of the Courtroom Security Unit.
The deputies of this division are also responsible for prisoner transportation on extradition back to Sumter County. Whenever a prisoner needs to be picked up from another law enforcement agency or correctional facility anywhere in the country, these deputies will ensure a secure transport back to Sumter County where they can face their charges or sentence.
