County Wide Emergency Medical Services:
Sumter County EMS currently operates 6 advanced life support ambulances everyday staffed with 2 personnel one of which has the ability to perform advanced life support and we staff 1 QRV (quick response vehicle) which is staffed by the Shift Supervisor a Paramedic. Sumter County EMS has 12 licensed ambulances which allows for a spare ambulance for each crew in the event of unforeseen mechanical problems. Sumter County EMS is a licensed Advanced Life Support Service through DHEC which is our regulatory body. Sumter County EMS responds to about 15,000 calls annually for 911 help calls. Sumter County EMS operates 4 stations throughout the County that the 6 ambulances respond from. Sumter County EMS has a state approved training program to help our personnel maintain their certification to provide Emergency Medical Services to the community. Staff attends training every month at the County Training center and it lasts from a minimum of 4 hours to some months 8 hours depending on the topic. Sumter County EMS participates in covering of Special events for different community activities, conducts safety talks to a variety of age groups from small children up to senior citizens, Sumter County EMS actively participates in community job fairs throughout the county to better help people know what it is that EMS does in the community. Sumter County EMS has participated in many fundraising events for different causes to help in any way that we can to make life better for our community as well as others. Sumter County EMS operates a COBRA team which is in place to respond to incidents of mass destruction, hazardous materials, or scenes where EMS will have to remain and establish a command post
