Suspicious and violent deaths:
The Coroner's Office is responsible for investigating all suspicious and violent deaths, as well as all deaths that occur outside of a hospital or nursing home and deaths that occur less than 24 hours after patients are admitted to the hospital.
ER Deaths:
All Emergency Room deaths are investigated by the Coroner.
Inquests:
The Coroner's Office conducts inquests; sets up autopsies; handles news releases; makes decisions to determine if the manner of death results from homicidal, accidental, suicidal, natural, or undetermined cause.
Child Deaths:
Handles all child deaths along with the S.C. Child Fatality Group.
Availability:
The Coroner is available to the public for help pertaining to a loved one.
Coroner services are available 24 hours a day by phone, or in the office during normal business hours. |
