Intersection Safety Improvements

Sumter planners, with the help of SCDOT, have identified the most dangerous intersections in our community based on the total number of crashes over a three year period.  Listed below, these intersections have experienced hundreds of accidents.  This project is designed to improve traffic safety at these intersections. 

Locations

• US 76-378 and SC 441
• Broad St and Gion St
• Guignard and Lafayette
• Carter Rd and Broad St. Extension
• Main St and Calhoun St
• W. Liberty and Washington St
• Wesmark and Broad

The Penny for Progress will:

• Re-engineer these dangerous intersections and construct safer intersections to increase safety for both pedestrians and mortorists
• Upgrade traffic controls
• Improve signal phasing
• Upgrade approach signage
• Provide dedicated new right and left run lanes
