Statement from members of Sumter County Council

The people of Sumter County, as well as many areas of the state, have been hard hit by the devastating floods that swept through the area over the weekend. The damages to the county's infrastructure, especially our roads, have been severe, and many of our citizens are facing significant property loss.

Public Notice: Emergency Meeting


Sumter County Council will be holding an Emergency Meeting Wednesday, October 7th at 3:00 PM or as soon thereafter as Practicable in the County Administration Building on theThird Floor in the County Council Chambers and/or Conference Room on 13 E. Canal Street, Sumter SC

Court Closings


All proceedings in the Sumter County Summary Court have been cancelled for the week of October 5th.  All litigants and attorneys will be notified by mail of their new court date.  Any jurors who were scheduled to report for jury duty on Monday, October 5th will be transferred to the term of court beginning Monday, November 30th, 2015.  All jurors will receive an updated juror summons by mail.  The Summary Court at 190 E. Canal street will be open and observing regular business hours.

Under general supervision, performs a variety of administrative and clerical duties necessary to help ensure the proper coordination and administration of activities associated with conducting County elections and voter registration.  Provides public assistance as needed. Processes voter registration through the mail and in the office. Assists in coordinating all elections. Duties include ordering and/or preparing all forms, materials and supplies needed for elections; contacting poll managers; assembling booklets for Ivotronics, preparing precinct maps, etc.

Fall is in the air......


Fall is in the air and your County Government is gearing up for another busy year.  Sumter County will sell a $30,600,000.00 Bond Anticipation Note, better known as a “BAN”, on September 30, 2015.  The “BAN” funds will allow Sumter County to get started early on the 2016 Penny for Progress projects; the new E911 Emergency Communication System, the new Police and Fire Headquarters, and numerous road improvements.  Also included in the early project list are architectural and engineering costs for several building projects so that many more projects can begin in 2016.
