Voter Registration/Elections: June 8 is deadline to apply for absentee by mail ballot

Sumter County Voter Registration & Elections Director Pat Jefferson would like residents to know that June 8, 2018, is the deadline to apply for an absentee by mail ballot for the June 12 primary.


The Voter Registration & Elections Office inside the Sumter County Courthouse at 141 North Main Street will be open for absentee voting from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2018.

County Council passes second reading of balanced budget

Sumter County Council passed second reading of a balanced budget with no tax increase during its regular meeting Tuesday evening.


Council members also passed second reading of a fee-in-lieu of tax and incentive agreement for an economic development project known as “Project Bulldog,” which touts a $150 million investment along with 125 jobs.

Groundbreaking for new Veterans Park to follow Memorial Day program

The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Veterans Park will immediately follow Monday's Memorial Day program at Buford Mabry Park.


The centerpiece of the new park will be a replica of a P-51 Mustang such as those flown during World War II.

On June 12, 2018, Sumter County Council approved the third and final reading for Fiscal Year 2018-2019 Budget Ordinance.  This year’s budget proposal was balanced at $52,752,483 revenues and expenditures with “NO TAX INCREASE.”
