‘The Beat Goes On’ was held Thursday evening at Patriot Hall as many Sumter County employees and their friends performed in a variety show to raise money for the American Heart Association.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, Family Court, Mary Smiling, Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center, Sumter County EMS, The Pack Road Project, Michaela Rutledge and Kimberly Pringle all entertained the crowd, as did Derrick Rhems, the master of ceremonies.
During the intermission, County Council Chairman James T. McCain Jr. shared his story about how he experienced some cardiac issues a year ago and how he uses that to raise awareness of heart health and the need for a healthy diet with regular exercise.
Stormwater Utility was also represented, as was Public Buildings. James Dixon performed with Gregory Rogers and Nikki Blooze channeled Gladys Knights as the show was closed out with an encore by Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center.
Sumter County Assistant Administrator Lorraine Dennis helped lead a ‘Happy Birthday’ song for Administrator Gary Mixon as well.
