The budget season is here!

The budget season is here!  Yes, it is that time of year again when local governments, all 46 counties within South Carolina, are sharpening their pencils to have a balanced budget for the Fiscal Year 2014-15.  Most budget years for South Carolina governments commence July 1 and conclude June 30.  On or before June 30 of every year County and City governments by law must pa

The heat has arrived......

The heat has arrived…..

May came with a heat wave, near record breaking temperatures has made it seem like summer has arrived.

Will spring arrive?

Will spring arrive?

Just when you think it is safe to wear your short sleeves, here comes another frost or even snow.  Hard to believe it is March in Sumter, and we are still experiencing cold weather.

Spring is just around the corner.......

Spring is just around the corner, but not before a little southern snowfall.  I know the snow makes everyone appreciate the warm spring weather which will soon arrive.

The Holiday Season is Here............

Where has the year gone?  Spring, summer and fall are passed us with winter just around the corner.  Dry weather gives us time to repair our many County dirt roads but a little rain to hold down the dust is always nice.

Fall is in the Air……………

What a great time of year to live in Sumter, South Carolina.  Cool mornings and mild afternoons are perfect for any outdoor activities.

Work continues by your County government…..the new Dabbs Fire Station is well underway.  The property on Hwy. 378 adjacent to the old fire station is cleared and ready for construction.  There are numerous intersection improvements ongoing in the downtown area funded by your Penny for Progress Sales Tax.

September is here......

September is here and your County government is in full stride.  The mild summer has been a welcome relief from the usual heat, but the wet weather caused deterioration on the County’s 300+ miles of County roads, which in turn increased maintenance work for Sumter County’s Public Works Department.

A New Year Is Here!

A new year is here!  That’s right, for Sumter County Government our new year begins July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014.

June was an extremely busy month for Sumter County.  The budget process was in full swing with the final budget approval vote taken on Friday, June 28, 2013, which seemed to be the last hour.

Living in the South...........

It’s nice to live in the South.  You cannot beat the 70’s and 80’s temperatures in May.  Once you endure the pollen season, what a great place to spend time outdoors.

Your County Government is hard at work.  The newest community center, Salterstown, will have its Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting on Monday, May 13, 2013, at 3:30 p.m.  Located on Highway 401 just beyond Highway 378, this new community center will serve the citizens on the east side of Sumter for many years to come.  The new Sheriff’s Office Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting will be Friday, May 24, 2013, at 2:00 p.m.  The transition to this new location on Highway 15 North has been successful on many levels.

Spring is in the air...............

Wow, what a wet spring thus far.  Rainfall in these amounts cause havoc on our County dirt road system not to mention all of the private lanes.  We do our very best to manage the maintenance on these roads and your patience is greatly appreciated.

Plans are on schedule to open the new Sheriff's Office in late May.  Sheriff Dennis and his staff have been working closely with the Information Technology Department to make this transition as smooth as possible.
